Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised Mauricio Pochettino for his work at Spurs, acknowledging speculation that he could take over at Manchester United.
The Red Devils face a tricky test on Sunday as they travel to Wembley looking to better the 3-0 drubbing they were given by Tottenham at Old Trafford in August.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is said to remain the first-choice of the Old Trafford board, but the club’s players are believed to have put their complete backing in Solskjaer being handed the full-time reins.
The former United favourite has won his first five games in charge and his inclusive man-management style, in contrast to Mourinho’s divisive approach, has been welcomed by United’s squad – according to the report in the Daily Mirror.
Despite the conflicting reports, Solskjaer was quick to praise his opposite number.
“He’s done a very good job, he’s one of the… the speculation is there for a reason because he’s done well but it’s not my job to rate different managers. My focus is on me and my team,” he told reporters during his press conference ahead of Sunday’s trip to Spurs.
On Harry Kane, he added: “He’s not bad is he? He’s a fantastic goalscorer, one of the best in the world to play up there, but then again I’ve got a couple I’m happy to work with.
“Having players like him, he’s a top top professional, whoever plays with him and trains with him can talk more about him but from the outside he’s a fantastic finisher, he never misses chances really so let’s make sure he doesn’t get any against us.
“You always adapt to any opponent, we play one of the best teams in the league, have to be aware of their strengths but we need to attack teams, that’s our strength as well.
“Going forward, attacking both as a team and the way we played, we won’t get as many chances to attack against these as we’ve had before so we’ve got to be ready for when we got hold of the ball and play well with it because Wembley is a decent sized pitch.”
The Norwegian was then asked for updates on any possible January transfers, admitting discussions are underway with some targets.
“I read the news sometimes as well and the speculations around this club is amazing, incredible. Some players I’ve not even heard of have signed. I can’t comment on things like that but we’ve got (current) players we are in discussions with but that’s not down to me either.”
