Lyon winger Maxwel Cornet is the subject of interest from Watford, who are in discussions over a £20million deal.

Cornet could be tempted to move to the Premier League for more first-team opportunities and a generous salary.

The Ivory Coast winger, 22, came to attention in September when he scored in Lyon’s shock Champions League win over Manchester City at the Etihad.

He did it again in November, bagging a brace as the Premier League champions were held to a draw in the Group F clash.

Despite his heroics, the winger has made just 12 appearances in all competitions for the French club, scoring four goals.

Watford are also facing competition from Serie A side AC Milan who want January reinforcements.

Cornet, a France Under-21 international, has scored twice in six games for the Ivory Coast at senior level.

Since joining the club from Metz in 2015, Cornet has made 137 appearances and registered 29 goals.

He is one of a number of Lyon stars attracting interest from Premier League clubs.

Houssem Aouar and Tanguy Ndombele are among those being targeted for January moves.
