CHELSEA defender David Luiz is surprisingly one of the most creative players in the Premier League, according to the stats.
The Brazil international has attempted more through balls than any other in the English top flight during the 2018-19 campaign.
A through ball is defined as a forward pass into an attacking area behind an opponents’ defence.
Luiz has attempted such a pass on 25 occasions this term, nearly double his closest rival.
Blues teammate Jorginho, who arrived alongside Maurizio Sarri from Napoli in the summer, is next in the standings with 13 – level with West Ham United’s Felipe Anderson.
Gylfi Sigurdsson of Everton is on 12, with Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen, Leicester’s James Maddison and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah all one adrift.

But despite showing the most intent of any player, the former PSG centre-backs efforts have only directly led to one Chelsea goal this season.
It came as Luiz set up N’Golo Kante to score the winner in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in December.
Of his 1,606 attempted passes this season, Luiz has made six big chances and played 126 accurate long balls.
Jorginho has made the most passes of any Premier League player this season, with only Aymeric Laporte, Antonio Rudiger and Granit Xhaka between him and Luiz in the standings.
