Chelsea’s huge demands for Michy Batshuayi stopped Tottenham making a move for the striker, while a Spurs star is in line for a shock new contract, according to Friday’s papers.
HUGE CHELSEA DEMANDS STOPPED SPURS SIGNING BATSHUAYI
Chelsea reportedly demanded a loan fee four times what they eventually agreed with Crystal Palace for Michy Batshuayi on Deadline Day.
A report in The Sun claims that the Blues wanted an incredible £8million loan fee from Spurs after offering the Belgian to West Ham for just £2m earlier in the day.
And with their Tottenham priced out of a move for the Belgian, Batshuayi eventually linked up with Roy Hodgson’s Eagles late in the day.
Batshuayi’s loan deal at LaLiga giants Valencia was cut short earlier in January after his performances were criticised, but that did not stop several Premier League clubs trying to secure his signature.
And it was Palace – albeit 90 minutes past the deadline – who got their man, having asked for extra time to get the deal over the line.
Spurs will now have to lean on Fernando Llorente to continue to the lead the line in Harry Kane’s absence, although the Spaniard’s brittle confidence will have been buoyed by scoring a late winner against Watford on Wednesday night.
