Rabiot, 24, has been frozen out at the champions having not featured since December.

According to Manchester Evening News, United are ready to offer him an escape route as he plots his next destination.

The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of Rabiot having followed his progress since Louis van Gaal was manager.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is prioritising signing a new central midfielder following the departure of Ander Herrera.

Juan Mata is also on his way out of the club while question marks remain over the future of Paul Pogba.

Nemanja Matic also has just a year left on his current deal and is expected to run it down.

But United set to face fierce competition across Europe for his signature.

Arsenal are ready to make their move along with North London rivals Tottenham.

Real Madrid and Juventus have also been linked and United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League means they face an uphill battle to lure him to the club.
