Chelsea Premier League fixtures 2019/20: Blues face tasty clash with Man Utd on opening day

By | 13th June 2019

CHELSEA will hope to be ready when they face Manchester United on the opening day of the new season.

All eyes will be on Old Trafford for the opening day, as two of the ‘Big Six’ battle it out for the first points on the board.

The Blues, who have had a tough break losing Eden Hazard, rumours circulating over Maurizio Sarri’s future and the wait on the transfer ban, will face a tough opening fixture.

In a tough December, Chelsea will face both Tottenham (December 21) and Arsenal (December 28) over the busy Christmas period, but fans will be grateful of less travelling with Southampton (December 26) and Brighton (January 1) their other opponents.

With Chelsea hoping to build on a last year’s strong season, fans will be looking towards the final day in a hope they are in the run to lift the trophy.

They will finish the season at Stamford Bridge against Wolves.

The Blues will consider last season a success, having only finished behind Manchester City and Liverpool in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, they added the Europa League to their trophy haul.

But, off-field issues and departures could see Chelsea struggle next season, after it was confirmed they would not be able to sign any players this summer.

The Stamford Bridge side had looked likely to miss out on a top four spot with a few weeks left of the Premier League season.

But consistent results allied with the drop in form by their closest rivals saw the Blues finish third.

They ended the campaign with victory in Baku in the Europa League final in a perfect send-off for Eden Hazard.

The Belgian has since left London and signed in a dream move to Real Madrid.

Yet, he could be joined out of the exit door by manager Maurizio Sarri, who is increasingly being linked with a move to Juventus.

The loss of your best player would cause problems for any club – but Chelsea will not be able to replace him until January at the earliest.

They had been fighting to have their transfer ban for the signing of minors overturned, having lost a court battle with Uefa in February.

Chelsea appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but had not asked for the ban to be put on hold.

Now, it was recently confirmed that they wouldn’t be able to sign anyone this summer as the appeal meeting will not be scheduled until after the transfer window has closed.
