MATS HUMMELS could be on his way back to Borussia Dortmund.
Talks have taken place between the two Bundesliga giants to allow the experienced defender to make an emotional return to the Westfalenstadion, claim Bild.
Hummels,30, made 34 appearances for the Bavarians who retained the Bundesliga title last term.
But at the highest level, the German international was found wanting, cruelly exposed by Liverpool’s fearsome frontline over two legs in the Champions League.
Lucas Hernandez’s arrival from Atletico Madrid for a club record £71m is a real sign of intent Niko Kovac is desperate to shore up his shaky defence.
The French international is expected to be used in central defence, pushing Hummels down the pecking order at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern have already signed Benjamin Pavard from Stuttgart – splashing out over £100million on two defenders.
The report goes on to say “concrete talks” are ongoing with Bayern’s valuation at around £15million.
Hummels has another two years to run on his deal and Bayern will see recouping a decent fee for the defender as good business.
The 2014 World Cup winner moved defender moved to Bavaria three years ago.
