CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN has reportedly rejected a move to Manchester United.
It is understood the Old Trafford club made advances to sign the Tottenham star.
But according to journalist Tom McDermott, the Denmark international and his team have given a clear “no”.
Instead, Eriksen, 27, would prefer a move to Spain.
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona have been linked with potential attempts to sign him this summer after another fine season under Mauricio Pochettino.
His contract runs out in 12 months and he has openly admitted he could be tempted to “try something new”.
The Champions League finalist told Danish magazine Ekstra Bladet: “I feel like I am in a place in my career where I might want to try something new.
“I have the wildest and deepest respect for everything that has happened at Tottenham.
“But I have also said that I would like to try something new.
“I hope there will be clarification during the summer, that’s the plan.
“In football, you do not know when clarification comes. It can happen at any time.
“[It is] best if it happens as soon as possible, but in football things take time.”
But with Zinedine Zidane prioritising Paul Pogba, AS believe he is not interested in Eriksen.
There is a strong chance, though, that Eriksen will pen a new deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to extend his stay.
McDermott tweeted: “Told that #MUFC did ask about Christian Eriksen but it was a “no” from the Dane and his team.
“Spain is his first choice, but Solskjaer’s problem is attracting players.
“Elite level would prefer a Champions League club. Even the “next best” have reservations.”
Latest Manchester United news
It is the latest blow for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is struggling to attract top-quality players to Old Trafford this summer.
Matthijs de Ligt looks set to snub United while they have failed to convince Joao Felix, Kalidou Koulibaly and Bruno Fernandes to sign just yet.
It seems the club are now beginning to pay the costly price of missing out on the Champions League next season – only Dan James has signed for the club this summer.
