Maehle, 22, was a standout in Belgian football last season and followed it up with some good shows in the U21 European Championships.

Burnley want a young right-back and Maehle has leapt to the top of their list.

And his Genk team-mate, Ukrainian midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi, 26, is also catching the Clarets’ eye.

Belgium sources claim they could be heading for Turf Moor in a double deal worth £19m.

Burnley are also considering a surprise move for Leeds’ goalscoring midfielder Mateusz Klich.

However, there is a split in the camp about how much to offer for the Pole, 29, who was in fine form last season.

Leeds are also waiting to hear if Tottenham will turn their interest in Kalvin Phillips into a £30m bid.

The midfielder has spent all his career at his home-town club.

And Spurs are ready to duel Newcastle for the 23-year-old.

Newly-promoted Aston Villa have reportedly already had an £11m bid rejected.
