REECE JAMES is being fast-tracked into the Chelsea first team.

New Blues boss Frank Lampard has earmarked the defender, 19, as the next Academy kid ready for promotion.

James needed ankle surgery in the summer but is now on an intensive rehab programme.

Chelsea hope he is training fully in time for the next international break at the start of next month.

Lampard wants to use that time, when many of his stars are away, to get a closer look at him.

Fellow full-back Davide Zappacosta’s exit to Roma on  loan has created space for James.

And Lampard is a big fan having tried to take him on loan at Derby last season.

James will become the latest academy player to feature under Super Frank.

Mason Mount, Andreas Christensen and Tammy Abraham have all forced their way into Chelsea’s first-team plans.

While Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are set to be restored to the starting XI when they return from their respective long-term injuries.
