RUBEN LOFTUS-CHEEK excited Chelsea fans with today’s update on how close he is to full fitness.
Out since May, the midfielder looked comfortable on an exercise bike alongside a trio of team-mates.
“Road to recovery,” captioned the image, which also featured Reece James, Marco van Ginkel and Jamal Blackman.
Loftus-Cheek ruptured his Achilles tendon in a pre-Europa League final friendly against New England Revolution in May.
The injury ruled him out of pre-season and fans will have to wait a little while yet before he is fit for action.
Earlier in the week, the Englishman revealed he isn’t due to return to training for another four to six weeks.
Loftus-Cheek’s absence hasn’t prevented Chelsea from rewarding him a new £150,000-a-week, five-year contract.
And when he returns, the 23-year-old could even be deployed as a striker.
Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham haven’t started the season too brightly and could fall out the side if Frank Lampard delivers on a bold plan first thought of by Antonio Conte.
Flanking Loftus-Cheek could be Callum Hudson-Odoi, who is due back next month while recovering from the same injury as his compatriot.

And fellow academy graduate James is in the first-team mix this season as Cesar Azpilicueta’s understudy at right-back.
Ankle surgery will keep the 19-year-old out of action until September, though.
The other two players who featured in the exercise bike image, van Ginkel and Blackman, are also on the comeback path following ACL and broken leg injuries, respectively.
