Marcus Edwards is finally set to seal a move away from Tottenham with Udinese closing in on his signature, according to reports in Italy.

Earlier this week, we relayed reports suggesting Edwards has asked to leave Spurs on a permanent basis before the European transfer window closes at the end of the month. At the time there was no word as to whether Tottenham had accepted the attacker’s request, but now it looks like Edwards will get his wish.

Italian outlet Tutto Udinese claims Edwards is close to joining Udinese, although it’s not clear how much money Spurs will receive for the 20-year-old. With Edwards being an academy product, any fee will be a profit – but knowing Daniel Levy the club will be keen to receive as large a fee as possible.

Edwards was recently linked with a move to Brentford after a relatively successful loan spell with Dutch side Excelsior last season, during which he scored three goals and provided five assists. A deal with Brentford failed to materialise before the English deadline.

It’s a bit of a shame Tottenham fans won’t get a close-up view of Edwards’ development with him playing in Italy. He clearly has a lot of potential, and it will be interesting to see whether he can fulfil it at Udinese if he does join the Serie A club.
