CHELSEA No 2 goalkeeper Willy Caballero has emerged as a shock Real Madrid target to replace wantaway Keylor Navas, according to reports.

However, any transfer would leave 19-year-old rookie Jamie Cumming as the only back-up to Kepa Arrizabalaga for the Blues this season.

Argentine stopper Caballero penned a one-year contract extension at Stamford Bridge in May following news of Chelsea’s two-window transfer ban.

The 37-year-old is likely to be released next summer with Frank Lampard free to sign a replacement but they may now be tempted by receiving a cash fee.

According to MARCA, Zinedine Zidane is eyeing Caballero as a replacement for Navas in the closing weeks of the window in Spain.

Madrid’s back-up keeper has reportedly told the La Liga giants that he wants to leave the club after being unhappy at playing second-fiddle to former Chelsea star Thibaut Courtois.

The Costa Rican was rumoured to be involved in a sensational player-plus-cash deal with Paris Saint-Germain for Neymar.

And if that happens, Zidane is set to swoop for Caballero, who already has La Liga experience following the nine seasons he spent at Elche and then Malaga.

But it remains to be seen whether Lampard would allow his No 2 to leave, with youth keeper Cumming yet to play a senior game for the club.

If Los Blancos are unable to snatch Caballero from the London club, AS reported that Pepe Reina and Maarten Stekelenburg are other names in the frame.
