Yet Amiens in Ligue 1 have come in for him after losing right-back Emil Krafth to Newcastle and they are now discussing terms.

Simpson wants around £30,000 a week and Amiens are considering stumping up to take him across the Channel.

He was in tears after saying goodbye to his Leicester team-mates and the club’s supporters.

Simpson said: “It was very emotional. Inside I was welling up but I don’t really like to cry in front of people.

“Then privately…It was more when I was leaving the dressing room, leaving the stadium, saying my goodbyes.

SunSport reported how Premier League side Crystal Palace were also interested in the right-back.

Simpson was also reportedly on Brighton’s radar.

Palace were in the market for a replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka who left for Manchester United in the summer and Simpson was a possible short-term solution.
