The president of Turkish club Trabzonspor has denied any interest in signing Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama before the European transfer window closes.

Wanyama has been heavily linked with a move to Belgian side Club Brugge in recent days, but with that deal failing to move closer to completion, there continues to be speculation about a possible swoop from another club.

Trabzonspor have been mentioned as potential suitor, but club president Ahmet Agaoglu has moved to deny the club’s interest.

Asked if Trabzonspor are keen on Wanyama, Agaoglu said (via Turkish Football): “Yama who? no there is no offer, there is no interest, it is simply not true there is nothing like that.”

Spurs have recently done business with another Turkish outfit, selling French winger Geoges-Kevin Nkoudou to Besiktas earlier this week. The transfer deadline in Turkey is at the same time as the rest of Europe, a scenario that has put English clubs in a difficult position.

It’s unlikely Tottenham will be desperate to sell Wanyama as soon as possible. The Kenyan has two years remaining on his current contract, so there will be opportunities to get a decent fee for him in future transfer windows.

That said, Mauricio Pochettino might be eager to streamline his squad so that players like Wanyama aren’t left unhappy with their lack of game time.
