MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly in talks with teenage starlet Angel Gomes about extending his contract as Barcelona monitor his situation.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder – who joined the Red Devils’ academy when he was just six – is in the last year of his deal at Old Trafford.
United fans have raved about the performances of Gomes during his previous outings for the club, while he starred for the Premier League side during pre-season.
And he was finally rewarded with his first start in the 1-0 win against Astana in the Europa League on Thursday night.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United want to commit the England youth international down to a new contract at the Theatre of Dreams.
However they claim that they are not yet close to a breakthrough with the player’s representatives.
They also state that Barcelona are tracking the exciting prospect and are ready to snap him up should he become available on a free transfer.
Another academy graduate that United will be keen to tie down is Dutch winger Tahith Chong – who also has just one year left.

But SunSport understands that Mason Greenwood is close to signing a new deal – with his weekly wage to rocket from £800 to £25,000-a-week.
Greenwood opened his account for United last night as he netted the only goal of the game against Astana.
Big things are expected of the 17-year-old, who has already featured for the senior side five times this campaign.
