How Man Utd could line up vs West Ham with Lingard set to earn recall amid mounting injuries

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER could hand a start to Jesse Lingard against West Ham as he searches for attacking alternatives amid a sizeable injury list.

Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw join Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah in the treatment room, and there are doubts over Daniel James’ participation.

If the Welsh winger can recover from a knock in time it is hard to see Solskjaer not taking a risk on one of his few bright sparks.

However the same cannot be said for Mason Greenwood.

Despite scoring the winner against Astana in the Europa League last time out, the teenage forward was absent as the squad boarded the train to London for Sunday’s game.

Short of options in attack, United boss Solskjaer may have to hand Lingard a reprieve.

The England international hasn’t scored or made an assist since January – but is nonetheless reportedly in line for a new contract.

Marcus Rashford is set to lead the line at London Stadium with Andreas Pereira keeping his place in behind, putting Juan Mata at risk of dropping to the bench.

Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic should continue as the holding midfielders in Solskjaer’s 4-2-3-1, the Scot getting a rest in midweek.

And Shaw’s continued absence signifies an unchanged defence for the third league game running.

Ashley Young will continue to deputise at left-back, alongside Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.

The Red Devils sit sixth in the table ahead of the day’s games.

Facing a West Ham side that haven’t lost since the opening weekend promises to be a tricky test with United last winning away from home in February.
