MANY fans and players don’t enjoy the international break but Toby Alderweireld is finding it a nice change of pace from getting beat with Tottenham.
The defender is currently preparing for Belgium’s Euro 2020 qualifiers while his club team figures out a way of reversing its fortunes.
That is just a few wins away according to the 30-year-old, who is enjoying a fresh mindset nonetheless.
Alderweireld told reporters: “A career is made of ups and downs. A few months ago, we were playing in the Champions League final.
“It’s proof that everything can change very quickly, whether it’s good or bad.
“You have to accept the current situation and not panic.
“All we need to do is win a few games to get back on track, but I’m not hiding that being with the national team is a nice change of scenery.”
Belgium will certainly find it easier to win this week than Spurs have but that is largely down to the ease of their upcoming fixtures – San Marino and Kazakhstan await in the coming days.
Tottenham meanwhile have lost four of their last five to drop them to ninth in the Premier League table.
In preparing for the internationals, Alderweireld posted a snap of his “winning team” from Belgium training.
Some uppity Spurs fans even thought he was taking a dig at Spurs with the Twitter pic presumably taken after a training match in Tubize.
Dan asked: “Is that a dig Toby???? Thfc.”
To which Graham added: “If it is he’s a big reason as any why we not winning at the mo [sic].”
And Jason agreed, writing: “We don’t mind if you want stay there. You obviously don’t want to play for us anymore. We’ll chuck in the kids at least they’ll get a sweat on.”

On the same note, Elliot tweeted: “All we ever did was give you our respect and want you to stay as you have been a class defender for us..but you enjoy your time with your country I’m sure in that time the paycheck from thfc will look great in your bank account. all good things come to an end..won nothing.”
But one Spurs fan account joked: “Yeah well you better win us the game when the international break is over!”
