Michel Vorm has described his return to Tottenham as ‘coming home’ as he seeks to inject some positivity into the squad.

The 35-year-old, who only was released at the end of last season, put pen to paper on a short-term deal and will provide cover for the injured Hugo Lloris, who is expected to miss at least three months of action after dislocating his elbow in the defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this month.

Vorm will become Spurs’ number two for the time being, with development goalkeeper’s Alfie Whiteman and Brandon Austin not deemed experienced enough for the position.

“I’m happy to be back. It’s easy in a way, I know most of the players and the staff. I have been here for five seasons already, so for me, it’s just coming home,” the Dutchman said in an interview with Tottenham’s website.

But where exactly was Vorm when he heard about his former colleague’s injury?

“I was in Holland at home watching the game,” he said. “I saw straight away that he had a bad injury and after the game I spoke with Jan (Vertonghen), he told me what was going on and I spoke also with Toni [Jimenez] and during the week I got the phone call and I was open to come back and help us out.”

Vorm, who is expected to go straight into the squad when Tottenham return to Premier League action against Watford on Saturday, is confident his new side can find their form after winning just three of their 11 matches in all competitions this term.

He continued: “We need to do it all together, we need everyone. It is easy to get into a negative situation, but we need to stay positive and do this altogether. Everyone is happy I am back so that is a positive for the team and I think I can achieve some good spirit.”
