MAURICIO POCHETTINO admitted he would prefer Ryan Sessegnon to stay with Spurs during the international break and NOT link up with England Under-21s.
The winger, 19, joined Tottenham from Fulham for £25million in the summer but has had his season hampered by a hamstring injury.
He finally made his first-team bow for Spurs last Sunday, coming off the bench for the final minute at Everton.
The teenager got another brief run-out at the end of the 4-0 win over Red Star Belgrade after replacing Son Heung-min.
And his 16 minutes of first-team action was enough to convince Young Lions boss Aidy Boothroyd to call him up.
The England U21s face trips to Albania and the Netherlands during the international break.
But speaking ahead of his side’s clash with Sheffield United, Poch confessed he would rather Sessegnon stayed at Spurs to continue to work on his fitness – but understands why he wants to represent his country.
He said: “He suffered at Fulham at the end of the season with a big injury and we are working so hard to provide him with the best tool to be in his best form.
“He needs time to be the best but we are happy in what he is doing and that is why he is involved with England U21s.

“I accept when the national team asks for your player.
“To be honest I prefer that the player should be here training with us, and available to play for 90 minutes and building fitness here in our concept but I accept that.
“We know he loves the national team and for the U21s Ryan is a very important player.”
