Paper Talk: Liverpool ready to hijack £42m Tottenham winger move; Everton line up Silva replacement

By | 1st December 2019

Liverpool are ready to hijack Tottenham’s move for a Dutch attacker, while Everton have lined-up the man they want to replace Marco Silva, according to Sunday’s newspapers.

Liverpool are reportedly ready to rival Tottenham for Lyon star Memphis Depay.

But a report in the Sunday Mirror also claims that the Reds could face competition from Manchester United for the 25-year-old forward, as the Red Devils inserted a buyback clause into the deal to sell Depay to Lyon back in January 2017.

Depay has enjoyed a new lease of life at Lyon, scoring seven goals in 10 Ligue 1 appearances so far this season, as well as four in the Champions League, while he has also become a major performer in Ronald Koeman’s impressive Holland side.

Lyon rescued Depay after he struggled during his spell at Old Trafford but since arriving in France, the attacker has matured and his overall games has improved hugely.

The report adds that Depay would cost around £42million, with Liverpool and Tottenham both prepared to pay the asking price.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to add depth to his attacking options and would Depay would provide strong competition to first-choice wide men Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

However, he would appear to fit in better under Jose Mourinho at Spurs, given that the Portuguese knows the player well from their time together at Old Trafford.
