BOUBAKARY SOUMARE is due decide between signing for Manchester United or Chelsea before the end of the month.

With the transfer window closing on January 31, the 20-year-old will be finalising plans for his future move imminently.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United have been in negotiations for the Lille midfielder, but no decision will be made before Lille’s Ligue 1 clash against PSG on January 26.

With Arsenal dropping out of the transfer race and LaLiga sides Real Madrid and Valencia following suit, the dash to signing Soumare is between Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Frank Lampard.

Soumare, who played Chelsea in the Blues 2-1 win over Lille in the Champions League knockout stages, is a box-to-box player who’s style resembles that of Paul Pogba.

Having impressed in 23 appearances across all competitions this season, his key attributes include defensive principles such as ball recovery, winning possession and general distribution.

The Frenchman, who came through the youth system at PSG before moving to Lille in 2017, could be the answer to Solskjaer’s struggling squad.

Keen to bolster his midfield, Soumare’s composure and ball control will help sure up the middle of the park for Solskjaer’s side.


Whilst his 87% pass competition rate could help unlock the creativity and pace the United forward should be showing.

However, his ability to dominate a game with poise and power from a very young age may position him well for a youthful Chelsea side.

With Lampard giving some of his younger contingent an opportunity to play, Soumare would be a regular in the side and could form a formidable, dynamic partnership with star-striker Tammy Abraham.
