Today Juventus have emerged as favourites for his signature, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

Manchester United had been tipped as a potential new club for Rakitic with the star seen as an ideal replacement for Paul Pogba.

In November an unnamed Premier League side had a £13million bid rejected by Barcelona.

While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s club were keen to strengthen its ranks a deal for the player didn’t materialise.

Rakitic, who’s under contract at Barcelona until 2021, has struggled to keep his place this season.

However he has recently returned to favour under new boss Enrique Setien.

Last year the Croat’s transfer value plunged by £34m. He’s now said to be worth around £22.5m.

The 31-year-old, who remains radar of United boss Solskjaer, could be open to a summer move if fails to move this winter.

Sport claims Rakitic has a £105million ( €125million) release clause in his contract.

The Croatian is reported to have told journalists he doesn’t want to be in Barcelona “just for a stroll by the seaside.”
