AT and T iPhone Unlocking Policy: Changed

If you got an iPhone 4, 4s 5 or the new iPhone 5s locked to AT&T and you would like to unlock it to use on a different network, you may be in for a big nasty surprise.

If you got an iPhone 4, 4s 5 or the new iPhone 5s locked to AT&T and you would like to unlock it to use on a different network, you may be in for a big nasty surprise. AT&T has recently updated its policy and closed off many opportunities for iPhone users to unlock their iPhones. In-contract, out-of-contract and even those new customers who shelled out a full price for their iPhones will now have to go through a tedious unlocking process and many have their requests rejected. Reputable third party unlocking services like charge a steep fee for AT&T unlocks due to these strict new policies which aim at limiting the number of iPhones that can be factory unlocked.

According to Keys2iPhone, many customers in the past could get an unlock for as little as $2. Many eBay vendors were pushing these cheap factory unlocking services for AT&T not realizing that one day, all this would end in a painful price increase. This day has arrived. On top of that, eBay is cracking down big time on the merchants who sell AT&T unlocks. Most are scammers anyway and they would simply take your money. If you take a closer look at their feedback feed, you will see lots of fake seemingly positive reviews. If you get it on eBay, you will end up with nothing - period.

Just like Sprint iPhones which are painfully next to impossible to procure factory unlocks for, AT&T is moving on the same direction limiting their customers abilities to unlock their iPhone for travel, or other legitimate reasons. Those who still wish to get their iPhones unlocked should hurry and pay a higher price.
