Scientists discovered a new species of river dolphins in the Araguaia in the vast Amazon rainforest, the first species of this type found in nearly a century.

The discovery of "araguaiaensis inia" was officially announced earlier this week in a study of the scientific journal PLoS One released on the Internet.
Tomas Hrbek biologist working at the Federal University of Amazonas, in Manaus, and is the lead author of the study. He claims that the new species is the third found in the Amazon region.
"It was an unexpected discovery that shows him emerging from our knowledge of biodiversity in the region," Hrbek said.
