Dimetrodon: First Land Animal having Teeth like Steak Knife

Dimetrodon, a four-meter-long carnivore that lived between 298 million and 272 million years ago was the first land animal found to be having teeth like steak knife, also known as serrated ziphodont.

Dimetrodon: First Land Animal having Teeth like Steak Knife The research published in the Nature Communications has termed Dimetrodon to be the first land animal to posses such type of teeth. Such teeth made the bite of Dimetrodon to be quite efficient and allowing to have much bigger prey.

One of the attractive revelations is such types of teeth are common among meat-eating dinosaurs, but Dimetrodon had them 40 million years before it became common. Robert Reisz and Kristin Brink at the University of Toronto Mississauga assessed the fossils of Dimetrodon skulls and jaws.
