Nasa launched early this morning its communications satellite TDRS-L, the third generation of a new key for communication between satellites space exploration missions.

The Centaur upper stage launcher was removed from the TDRS -L spacecraft as planned , leaving the communications satellite in geostationary transfer orbit .
The TDRS satellite will use its own engines to steadily raise its orbit about 22,300 miles a sufficient altitude to orbit its speed matches the rotation of the Earth .
This new satellite is the twelfth of the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite series that NASA began launching in 1983. Of the 11 satellites launched TDRS , eight are still in operation , two have been withdrawn and one was lost in a crash of a space shuttle
The fleet of satellites TDRS NASA is used for communications control centers on Earth and space missions such as the International Space Station ( ISS) and achieve take data from other missions in orbit, as the telescope Hubble space .
These satellites are manufactured by the Boeing Space Systems and weigh 3,454 kg . To launch the satellite dishes and solar panels are folded so that they can be inserted into the protective cap from the Atlas V. Once the solar panels deployed , the spacecraft will measure 21 meters tip to tip of the panels. These satellites are designed for a service life of 15 years.
The satellite and former Nasa cost the 700 million dollars.
