NASA created in 2016 "the coldest place in the universe" in order to try to study matter at temperatures that are similar to absolute zero. The experiment was carried out on the International Space Station.

Several researchers are working on the "Cold Atom Laboratory" to be located in space, with the aim of knowing the subject in situations that can not reproduce on earth.
This is because the temperatures experienced in space are unattainable on Earth's surface. Also, having no gravity, experiments can be studied longer, lasting up to 20 seconds.
"We will study the matter much colder than those found naturally temperatures," said the scientist Rob Thompson, a member of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, in charge of this project. Thompson said the idea is to reach the hundred pico-Kelvin, which means ten thousand millionth achieve a degree of absolute zero. Scientists say, in theory, that at this temperature the thermal activity of atoms stops.
