Football League exhibition celebrates 125 years

National Football Museum marks 125 years of the Football League

SOUNDBITE (English) Greg Clarke, Football League Chairman:
"I think the league is embedded in the communities of its 72 clubs. Those communities are vital - at the heart of each of them is a Football League club which the local people and many others outside of that community care a lot about. It's part of their identity and part of their passion. We've been keeping that heart beating for 125 years and we are incredibly proud of it."

SOUNDBITE (English) Kevin Moore, National Football Museum Director:
"Well it's a fantastic anniversary in the history of football worldwide not just in this country. It's an incredibly important moment in that history - the world's first football league. From that The Football League founded in 1888 here in Manchester where the National Football Museum is based. We now have not only a fantastically successful football league and the Premier League here in England but football leagues all around the world and it all goes back to that moment in 1888"

SOUNDBITE (English) Kevin Moore, National Football Museum Director:
"This is very much a celebration of all those 72 current members, but of course given 125 years of history there are also many other clubs no longer in the Football League or also in the Premier League who now who are also of course featured in the exhibition. It really is a celebration of 125 years of Football."
