Tottenham Long ball? Your talking rubbish
Harry Redknapp has rubbished accusations that Tottenham have become a long ball team.
Redknapp also explained that there was a difference between just long balls and accurate long passes.
“We pass the ball to death and hit Crouchy in the right areas.
“If you can hit a 50-yard pass, it’s better than a 10-yard pass or a backwards one. It’s about creating strikes on goals, if it’s 50 yards then it’s a great ball. It’s about quality.”
Redknapp didn’t stop there, he defended the use of Crouch saying
“Every time we hit Crouchy against Villa he knocked the ball down and we had chances to score,” Redknapp said. “If you are going to have Peter Crouch in your team you have to use him, you can’t expect him to run up channels or to come short. That’s not his game.
“He is an option when teams fill up the midfield and you can’t pass through them. We have that great option to miss out the midfield, hit him and pick things up around the box.
“That is what makes us a much better team – we have options and don’t have to keep passing.
“You can pass all day. We’ve seen that recently from teams. People say they are playing fantastic football but they are not winning games.
“We are playing fantastic football but also have an option with Crouchy as well, which is good.”
The use of Crouch is one for debate but to say that we are a long ball team is a load of crap and Redknapp is dead right when he says we pass the ball to death.
The accusations leveled at us are just some in the media having a pop because we have fallen out of the top four and they are now looking for reasons as to why that is and with the lack of goals in recent games the strikers were always going to be in the line of fire.

Sorry got to disagree
There are real advantages to the use of Peter Crouch (the packed midfield is one example) however despite the 100% effort that he gives our play has become predictable. a knockdown is allways a 50/50 ball and every team knows it. Harry is correct about the number of passes we put together, possession is one thing but as Villa and several other teams have proven by the time we eventualy get the ball to the 18yd box they have 10 players waiting to thow themselves in front of the ball. Variation is whats needed, aggressive runs from midfield, ball to feet passes and speed on the break. The opposition can have possession then when the ball is in the back of the net. COYS
