A US military satellite explodes in orbit
A US military satellite has exploded after an unexplained "sudden rise in temperature" been detected, sending dozens of pieces of debris falling in different orbits around the Earth, as reported on Tuesday portal "Cienciaplus".
CelesTrak civil company was the first to notice the explosion that once were secret meteorological satellite and later the US Air Force has confirmed that it has lost.
The TV was an old component of the Program Defense Meteorological Satellite that the US military began developing in the 1960s for use in reconnaissance and surveillance. In 1972 the system was declassified, and your data became available for civilian scientists.
The satellite old, who had no strategic importance, was in orbit since 1995 at an altitude of 800 km, a distance covering both poles.
The explosion has killed at least 43 pieces of debris scattered in orbit, now being tracked by the US Air Force.
